What do you do when you see something in the bin (well by the bin in this case)? You assume it's rubbish, broken, and of little use to anyone.
I was working a part-time job; the workplace shared a waste area with Specsavers. I must have walked past and glanced at the broken display stand a handful of times before actually seeing it, like most my subconscious must have assumed it was rubbish and therefore useless. But then the material and shape caught my eye. The cloudy matte acrylic, the interesting shape so specific to its function.
The resulting project celebrates the peculiar shape of the eight repeating sections that were stripped from the glasses display stand. These acrylic sections simply slot around two birch ply discs, creating a simple yet effective free-standing lamp.
